Blackfoot Daisy

Melampodium Leucanthum

Blackfoot daisy is a real Texas superstar. It loves full sun and is very drought and heat tolerant. In fact, overwatering is the quickest way to kill a blackfoot daisy. We have grown blackfoot daisies in both clay soils that were heavily amended to break down the clay and sand/compost mixture (with emphasis on sand) and it thrived in both locations. It needs good drainage, full sun and a haircut once a year. Blackfoot daisy has a long blooming season. The white blooms are appealing from March to November. In late winter, cut plants down to about 3-4 inches about ground to keep them compact. Rich soil and abundant water will likely produce many more flowers in the short-term, but may consequently shorten the lifespan.

Blackfoot daisy provides nectar for bees, butterflies and insects.
